Dr. Michael Floyd

Dr. Floyd’s research interests include goal reasoning, explainable artificial intelligence, learning by observation, deep learning, autonomous agents, case-based reasoning, adaptive autonomy, human-agent teaming, plan/goal recognition, trusted autonomy, and human-robot trust.

He is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers and has given numerous presentations on his research at international artificial intelligence conferences, including IJCAI, AAAI, ICCBR, ICTAI, and FLAIRS. Dr. Floyd has published scientific papers with co-authors from numerous institutions around the world, and has been an invited speaker at several international conferences and research laboratories. He has also organized nine international scientific meetings, served as a program committee member for over 35 international scientific conferences and workshops, served as a reviewer for numerous journals, and served as an external examiner for several doctoral dissertations.

Dr. Floyd earned the Best Paper Award at the 22nd International Conference on Case-Based Reasoning, as well as the Carleton University Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement, awarded to the top Ph.D. dissertations at Carleton University. Videos presenting his research have been recognized with two awards from the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, and he has received several teaching honors.

Prior to joining Knexus, Dr. Floyd was a research assistant at Carleton University and the National Research Council Canada.
He enjoys traveling with his wife, Natalie, and his daughter, Lillie. He is an avid sports fan, particularly hockey, and enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, and snowshoeing.
